Learn through fun

Our History programmes focus on hands-on, interactive learning, exploring Pre-history, Roman, Anglo-Saxons, Medieval, Tudors, and Stuarts, as well as Our City, Past and Present days. The days bring the period to life with dressing up, artefact handling, Q&A sessions, role play and more. We offer guided tours of medieval Bradwell Abbey and resources to accompany the visit.

  • Re-enactment

    Meet a Roman solider recruiting for his legion, or join a play rehearsal with a Tudor travelling playwright.

  • Craft

    Make your own sword and shield and prepare to defend the castle! Step into the mosaic academy and create your own.

  • Roleplay

    Get in costume and take part in a Roman banquet, or keep the law and order and dish out punishments in your Tudor village.

  • Storytelling

    Hear Norse creation myths or the legend of how Rome got its name.

  • Problem solve

    Become an archaeologist & look for clues to unlock historic secrets, or figure out how to move huge stones hundreds of miles.
