Posters from the Past
25th-26th November 2017
For this year's Explore Your Archives campaign, the City Discovery Centre at Bradwell Abbey delved into our collections to display some of our best posters at this free exhibition.
Covering subjects such as special events, open days, linear parks, exhibitions, fireworks displays and more, visitors came along to see which ones they remembered.
From the graphically great to the more home designed, these posters tell the story of the past 50 years in Milton Keynes.
We also showed The Living Archive's fascinating film Milton Keynes Through a Lens throughout both days. This is a brilliant glimpse of the history of our city in moving images, compiled from archive footage from the 1940s to the present day.
Art of the Architect: Visualising the City
Saturday 20th June 2015
A pop-up exhibition of original artwork from our Archive & Reference Library collections by some of the architects and artists that worked for the Milton Keynes Development Corporation. A satellite exhibition to the main Art of the Architect: Imagining Milton Keynes exhibition in thecentre:mk, we displayed artwork showing how the planners visualised the New City in its planning stages. From parkland and leisure activities to housing and grid roads - what was the city supposed to look like?
Featuring the artwork of Andrew Mahaddie, John Seed and Helmut Jacoby, visitors were able to see if their vision became reality.
