Home education and community groups

"Our thanks go to the City Discovery Centre for their time and the informative tour - we all thoroughly enjoyed the visit and are more knowledgeable as a result!" Local history group, Buckingham

As well as school groups, Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre welcomes home education and community groups. Whether you're from the Scouts or Guides or a local history society, consider a visit to Bradwell Abbey, we can provide for out of school hours activities for youth and community groups. In addition to our programmed sessions we can offer site tours, teambuilding, orienteering, history detectives and even over-night camping. Most popular is our Mini Medieval day - a fun and informative introduction to MK’s medieval past complete with a digital fly-through of Bradwell Abbey in the 12th century, a monk's costume and a guided tour of the site, including the nationally unique St Mary's Chapel. We are happy to discuss any ideas you have for a session. For more information or if you would like to bring your group for a visit please contact the Education Manager.

Talks & lectures

Milton Keynes City Discovery Centre is available to speak at local group meetings for a reasonable fee. We offer talks on various aspects of Milton Keynes's history, from periods of history such as Roman and medieval, to the planning, development and design of the new town.

Prices

MKCDC aims to keep the visits by community groups affordable; prices vary depending on group size and what you require. Please get in touch for further information.

Viewing St Mary’s Chapel

St Mary's Chapel is a small pilgrimage chapel built as an addition to the Benedictine priory in the 14th century. Within the chapel is a full scheme of medieval paintings, including a nationally unique scene of the pilgrims themselves. MKCDC offers viewings of the chapel to individuals and small groups of families and/or friends by appointment, subject to staff availability.

We ask for a small donation of whatever you feel is appropriate towards staff time and our charitable activities. An attractive and informative chapel booklet is also available to buy from MKCDC.
