An introductory presentation comprising:

  • very brief introduction to the post-war British new town programme
  • planning a new city - why MK and why here
  • planning transport & housing
  • selling the new city to investors and residents
  • current issues
  • future challenges

      2. Planning a sustainable city

      An introductory presentation comprising:

    • some models and definitions of a sustainable city
    • brief overview of the planning and policy tools which may be used to create a sustainable city
    • an evaluation of MK as a sustainable city
    • emerging issues .

      Learning activities for 'A' level Communication Studies

      Evaluating Milton Keynes using modernist, post modern and Marxian perspectives

      an introductory presentation comprising:

    • brief introduction to the development of Milton Keynes
    • MK as an example of modernist planning and architecture
    • MK as a post-modernist city
    • A Marxian perspective

      Study tours

      Presentations and lectures are followed by a 2 hour study tour of Milton Keynes
